The ingredients in dietary supplements are changing daily, but one of the most widely used ingredients is still antioxidants. Antioxidants are used to maintain health and prevent diseases that could come upon a person later down the road. Such diseases could be anywhere from cancer to any form of coronary heart disease. The scientific terms for antioxidants are molecules capable of inhibiting the oxidation of other molecules. This oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Antioxidants and oxidation are crucial for life and can be damaging to the cells if a low level is present in the body.

There are lots of thoughts to antioxidants improving health and reducing health risks. Something you should watch out for though is taking too many antioxidants can actually be harmful to your body. Antioxidants are known for producing free radicals and in turn those radicals can start chain reactions that can damage cells.

It is best to eat healthy organic food with natural antioxidants. Remember that people who eat fruits and vegetables have a lower risk of heart disease and that exercise can really be that great anti-aging supplement you've always been looking for. Applying organic skin care products to your face can also create youth for your body.
